About Scargo School
Our Mission Statement and Philosophy
Scargo School is dedicated to providing a safe and caring environment in which children can experience, experiment, and explore. We believe in the value of providing opportunities for children to creatively and joyously express themselves. It is our goal for children to be both nurtured and challenged. We encourage them to take risks and learn about themselves, about others and about their community.
The development and maintenance of the Early Childhood Program is the primary responsibility of the Director. The Director works with the teaching staff to design an age appropriate program. The program is structured around the needs of the children with concern for their interests, special needs and disabilities, cultural backgrounds and individual learning styles.
Our program is designed to foster the development of each child by providing developmentally appropriate opportunities for growth in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, creative, language and physical development. Our staff is dedicated to providing a nurturing educational environment that accommodates each child’s needs, learning styles, and abilities. We strive to stimulate and encourage each child to be a confident, curious, capable and creative person.

The Scargo Magic
Community Events
Scargo School believes that community is so important for building relationships and developmental growth. Throughout the year we host many community events for the Scargo family. These events include our ice cream social, winter holiday fair, and our end of the year cookout. These events are a great way to build relationships with other families and staff members.

Hands on Learning
At Scargo, we believe that hands-on learning and outdoor experiences are essential for growth and development. That's why we incorporate outdoor hands-on learning into every week. Some of these activities include actively participating in tending and growing plants in our school garden. From seed to harvest, they grow vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as beautiful flowers such as sunflowers. Through this engaging, hands-on experience, students learn about the plant life cycle while also developing valuable gardening skills.
We also have a gym class , run by Miss.Laura, where the students get to participate in fun, age appropriate activities, games and obstacle courses to help develop gross motor strength.
Another hands-on activity offered by Scargo is Bird Nerd with Miss Gretchen.
“Scargo School is wonderfully situated between Bass River and a fresh water pond, on land that abuts conservation land in Dennis. This unique location allows access to several woodland trails offering on site experiences and walks in nature as part of our on going curriculum. I design age appropriate hands-on activities that engage Scargo students with birds as the main attraction, because they are everywhere and they always show up! Nature-based learning engages the senses and kids learn best that way! I am grateful for the opportunity to guide these young future stewards of nature as we experience the outdoors learning about native species, habitats, and the seasons. Scargo School's Cape Cod Bird Nerd activities are typically twice a month for Rooms 1-4, and are experienced outdoors as often as weather permits.”
Throughout the year, we host a variety of in-house and off-site field trips. These special experiences include engaging puppet shows, visits to Bray Farm, and Amazing Animals, where children even have the opportunity to pet some of the animals they learn about!
